Fan Support for Moonlight gets Bloody

Fans of Jericho bombarded CBS with peanuts last year to convince the network to pick up the series for a second season. Fans of Roswell sent bottles of Tabasco sauce. Fans of Journeyman sent boxes of Rice-a-Roni. So now, fans of the CBS vampire series Moonlight are sending . . . blood?

Well, sort of. Fans of the series are working with the Red Cross on a nationwide blood drive to show their dedication to the show and to send a message that CBS should pick it up for a second season. As of 4/4/2008, over four thousand fans had signed the online petition at youchoose.net pledging to give blood. Impressed by the fan initiative, series star Alex O'Loughlin has announced his intention to become a spokesman for the Red Cross.

Moonlight has actually not been cancelled and is considered a strong candidate for renewal. It returns in April with four new episodes. The ratings for the series have been somewhat marginal, though, and it has typically lost a fair number of viewers from the 8 PM timeslot where Ghost Whisperer gives it a strong lead-in. Therefore, fans do not want to take a chance and are trying to get the message to CBS that plenty of people are watching the show.

All of this has to make NBC nervous about the biblical series Kings they have scheduled to bow in Spring of 2009. If that suffers an early cancellation, will fans send plagues and locusts to the network in protest?

Axiom's edge is not specifically a "Save Moonlight" site. We focus on Science Fiction and Fantasy television in general, though we try to acknowledge the fan campaigns to save canceled shows. There are several sites out there dedicated to bringing Moonlight back such as Moonlight Line: http://forums.moonlightline.com/viewforum.php?f=429
